Paper Quilling

Alli Bartkowski is the most passionate quiller I have ever met. I had seen this art & craft form over the years, but for some reason, I never had the opportunity to give it a try. Alli’s booth at the most recent CHA show in California was filled to the brim with the most creative quilled creations I have ever seen. She literally uses the technique to sculpt and form anything she wants from traditional quilled motifs to 3-D people and cupcakes!

It was a thrill to sit down with her one on one while she patiently showed off the most basic techniques. I can see why this art form could be so addicting!

Alli taught me how to make a paper quilled heart you see in this post.

What is the first thing you want to learn how to quill? What colored paper will you use? What kinds of quilling projects do you want to try?

I think making a DIY set of note cards with paper quilled designs on the front would be very sweet. Also, you could make little gift tags for special presents and tie it to a package with a bow. How about a quilled bracelet or napkin ring holder? You could make ornaments for Christmas or custom valentines for Valentine’s Day.

The ideas are unlimited!

Just think of all of the other things you could do with this simple idea of curling thin strips of paper.

I leaped at the opportunity to purchase her signed book for beginners, as I know I have a lot to learn about this technique. This was a special meeting with Alli Bartkowski that I will never forget.
