“Wonderful” Handmade Paper Doily Card
Last week I shared with you how easy and fast it is to make a giftable journal out of a sheet of felt and some office paper. This week, I am continuing the “Thank You” theme with a darling little handmade paper doily card I made with paper scraps. This is perfect for everyday use or you could even customize it for a wedding invitation.
To make a card with scraps, the first thing you want to do is to find an envelope that will fit your newest creation. Next, go through your handmade papers and look for pieces that work well together. For my card, I found that this neutral paper tone sets of the white paper doily very nicely. I am experimenting with an unusual fold here and it worked beautifully revealing the inside of the card a bit while accenting the overlapping edge of the doily. I always encourage you to try something new if you want to enhance your creative skills.
Once you have the structure of the card designed, begin considering embellishments and a way to add a sentiment. I was using burlap and thread and some fun little buttons in the felt journal project so I thought I’d give those a spin here as well. I decided to stitch the word “WONDERFUL” to the front using a burlap accent half-circle backing. I think this work fits how I often feel about someone to whom I want to express my gratitude. I added the faux crocheted button to the front of my thank you card, tying everything together.
TIP: If you are using handmade paper in a greeting card, consider how the texture of the paper will accept sentiment handwritten with a pen or marker. Since I knew my paper was too rough to write on, I attached a cut piece of tracing paper with a strip of double-sided tape at the top making the card easier to inscribe.
I hope this post inspired you to go make some paper scrap cards of your own.
